Electronics and Instrumentation
Many R&D programs require specialized electronics and instrumentation. While much is available off-the-shelf,
commercial solutions may be a compromise at best and unsuitable at worst. For those latter situations, we offer
our services on a contract basis. Our expertise and capabilities encompass
- Spice modeling, including combined A/D circuits, non-linear magnetics and lossy transmission lines,
- Bread-board design, layout, and testing,
- Computerized printed-circuit board layout and auto-routing, including multilayer boards and SMDs,
- Machine-shop services, performed by a master machinist, and
- Prototype brass-board construction and testing.
Although most of our work is related to the physical sciences, several programs involved areas of biotechnology,
for example. Representative projects have included
- A multichannel solid-state trigger delay for BMD/CW field tests,
- A fast two-wavelength detector for optical pyrometry,
- A 10-kV ion-beam modulator using MOSFETs,
- A high-intensity, burst-mode Xe flash system, and
- Shock-pressure gauges and supporting electronics, including PVF2, carbon, and manganin.
